Baby penguins are different sizes depending on the species and their physical characteristics are adapted to their natural habitat.

Baby penguins born completely covered with gray, white or brown plumage, which is lost as they grow to get the counter shade black and white plumage which most of us know. The change to adult plumage they get when they have a one year old. See images below of:
