Penguins in Hollywood
Famous Films about Penguins
Many individuals have found a fascination with Penguins due to various films created in Hollywood. They give
great humanistic characteristics to these penguins, and you can’t have but fall in love with them. Many of them are
cartoons but they keep the attention of both children and adults. This is often due to the humor that most adults
appreciate in such films while children are focused on other aspects of the film.
The film Madagascar was released in 2005 about a group of animals that escape from a New York zoo to find a lion
that has been transported from there. The penguins are very funny in their parts of the show. The penguins are the
brains in many of the operations to successfully get their lion friend back. They also steal a boat and take the
entire group of animals to Madagascar to live.
Happy Feet was released in 2006 with the voice of Robin Williams as one of the main characters. It features a
story surrounding a colony of Emperor Penguins in the Antarctic.
One of the penguins though doesn’t have a delightful singing voice. Therefore he isn’t very well appreciated by
his colony. He joins a group of bachelors where they experience many adventures together. Through all of it though
he starts to realize that each of them has their own unique abilities and he finally feels like he has found his
place in the world. There is plenty of singing and dancing in this penguin film from Hollywood that you will enjoy.
This film contains an important environmental message.
In 2007 was the penguin film called Surf’s Up. It features penguins living by the beach and taking part in
surfing competitions. One very funny aspect of the movie is one penguin that continually jumps in the water and
then has to be rescued by lifeguards as he can’t swim yet. Adults that have watched many surfing movies over the
years will find that this one makes fun of plenty of them throughout the film.
Cody is the main penguin character in the movie and he is on a quest to be the best surfer in the world. Then he
meets what he thinks is someone to help him accomplish that goal. It is only later that he realizes this is one of
the great surfers of the past that disappeared. He is let down that his idol vanished instead of accepting defeat
and encourages him to take his place in the world of surfing once again.
A very realistic film about the life of penguins is called March of the Penguins. It follows the Emperor
Penguins as they make their way from their home to the breeding grounds and back again. Anyone that once thought a
life was very simple for a penguin will not think so after they have watched this Hollywood film. While it isn’t
funny like the films previously mentioned here, it is definitely something a family can watch together and then
discuss.
If you enjoy penguins, watching some of these Hollywood films is a great way to entertain yourself for a while.
Many people have found they are interested in learning more about penguins after they have viewed such films. This
is great to see so many people with a sparked interest in these types of birds. With more exposure, hopefully
people will take on the responsibility of helping them to survive in their natural habitat.
