How do Penguins Communicate?
Penguins’ vocalizations are identifiable by each individual who allow parents to recognize each
other and also their chick. This is very important to take care of their chick in a large populated colony
where all are very similar. Also, communication is performed during courtship and mate selection.
Communication in penguins is not only performed through vocalization, they also perform a physical behavior called
displays.
Three kinds of communications have been discovered in penguins.
1. The Contac Call. This is used to identify each other.
2. The Display Call. It is used between partners within a colony.
3. The Threat Call. It is used for
warning.
